|10:36 am - because mia asked...|
here are two starts from the film. they're not spotted. and the prints are not done. i want to print at a lower contrast, tone and lightly hand color. don't give me shit for the hand coloring, i already know you don't like it. i do.
i hope you see these before photobucket freaks out about the breast in the one image. between this model and the last one i had, i had a hard time keeping the clothes on them!!! a couple of times i had to tell river to put it in the dress, please!!! BUT. . . i actually like some of the nudes. so i might use them anyway.
i'm playing around with doing my next november show on mythological figures. only, i want to tell the other side of the story...to re-write / re-right the woman who is traditionally
cast as the "bad guy". the title of the top piece, and the title of the show would be "redeeming eve"

Wonderful choice in subject here,
she has a timeless quality.
Sunlight from overhead is beautiful and makes her
a saint instead of the sinner, rewrite-it sister!
Can I get a witness!
yup and yup...you get it!!
thanks for your comment, eugene.
you inspire me
i wonder why everybody wants to undress in front of you........ROFL.........
thanks so much for posting them, Smith!!!!!
and when will you learn to update your own website, so you don't have to worry about stupid outfits censoring your artwork........???????
all you need is a free software program to upload those pics and the access data for your website.
no html, nothing.
this way your pictures are not integrated into the website, but you can quote them and nobody can tell you what to show and what not.......
and i like those MUCH better than the digital ones.
the first one reminds of me of Leni Riefenstahl stuff and even though i always admired her art, i still can't get over the III. Reich stuff......
with the second one i'm not sure about the busy background. Not sure whether it adds something necessary or takes something away from the foreground.......but i still like it very much
i'm looking forward to seeing more of those hopefully....;-)
you like these better because film is sexxie.
um...just like fine lingerie is filmy.
oh! have i heard that before??? :)
i don't know what's up with all these dying to be neckit women in my life, but what the heck, i can go with the flow as well as the next guy.
i used to be able to upload images to my website. then my web-queen suggest i switch hosts. and now i can't do a fucking thing on there. AND HAVE SPENT A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF TIME TRYING...i even called them. so i'm sorry i left ipowerweb.
i really like both of these images...the first one will end up as part of my body of work. the second one i love, but it isa little different from what i usually do. i actually like the busy-ness of it...it takes time to find all the junk and it is pretty enough to make you keep looking at it. it reminds me a little of jock sturges, tho, and that kinda turns me off.
i don't know know leni riefenstahl's work...but that name is ringing a bell. maybe i'll google her.
Leni Riefenstahl was " Hitler's photographer". She did a lot of different stuff later ( i think she was around 100 when she died), but what came to my mind was her work around the Olympic games 1936. She did a lot of this " arische Rasse" beautiful people pics, sportlers, heros...and quite often with this perspective from below to create this " adoration" atmosphere.
I have many of her pics memorized ( did i tell you that i have a photographic memory?), but unfortunately i wouldn't know where to find them online.....
that "free software" thing you mentioned above...can you tell me how to do this?
hey nice brea...i mean, photo. :P just kidding. that really is an awesome image. it will totally fit in with your mythological figures theme.
and my,my aren't WE up early!!
I´m not sure why but the first picture reminds me of a painting of Joan of Arc and I can´t for the life of me remember where or when I saw it.
I like the shadows in the second pic and the tangle of her hair, two very specific things but they´re what drew my eyes and not the breasts!
to be honest, the tangle of hair & wire, and the quality of light are what catch my attention, too. thanks donna!

I'm not telling anything about hand coloring... I think I don't even know what it means :)
They're beautiful! And let models undress if they want, it is still Summer ;)
hand coloring is just going in with a very thin wash of oil paint after you print in b&w. simple...little kids do it all the time in coloring books!! :)
i get the feeling both of these last two models would want to strip down in the dead of winter...probably with snow all over the ground!!
if you were in the states, i'd take YOUR picture.
just thinking about your show topic and title:
did you ever research Lilith?
Lilith was actually Adam's " first wife". She was wild and refused to lie under Adam when he wanted sex and therefore she was chased away and turned into a demon, because she wasn't " suitable". Only then Eve showed up.
She messed up too....sort of....but she was a much milder version of the female principle in comparison to Lilith.
Lilith always had a special place in my heart.
there is much more to this story and i had actually planned to write a book about it 10 years ago, but then.....too much other stuff happened..........*g*

HA HA!!! LOLOL1!!
this model (if i remember correctly) said she'd RATHER be lilith!
lilith will be have to be one of the characters i shoot images of.
whatcha gonna do with all these wild women?

Re: HA HA!!! LOLOL1!!
LOLOL i love them and then i become them......*g*
When i was a girl my 'hero" was Penthisilea, the queen of the ( Greek) amazons who was killed by Achilles, because she fell in love with him ( i always thought: how stupid of her ....;-))
later it was Medea for a while.....she is a wild woman too, but much smarter and more " controlled", kind of civilized version.
Lilith i only met when the astrologers found TWO stars at the same time that they named after her. And i went: wait a minute......WHY is this Lilith-myth popping up in the consciousness of people all of a sudden?
and i started researching it.
Lilith is the REAL Eve.....*g*
it's such a fascinating story.
According to the Bible God told Adam to " name the beasts" which is very obviously the cognitive function.
And as an opposite Lilith was connected to the instinctual/intuitive powers.
She was supposed to lie UNDER Adam, which would have meant she agrees that the cognitive function rules......she couldn't allow that and she didn't.
Eve did, Lilith NEVER allowed ANY male function rule her.
Judaism and Christianity ( as well as Islam) are deeply patriarchal religions based on the masculine/cognitive function.
From their perspective Lilith was a demon that they couldnt' control, which is correct. The cognitive function will never control intuition and intuitive powers.
And that's how Lilith was banned into the unconsciousness and the " nice" Eve showed up on the scene.
Some years ago when i was in contact with Pat - who is pretty intuitive sometimes - he started telling me about a "wild girl" that was part of me and that he could find in me.
I wasn't too pleased that Pat was able to " see" the wild girl part of me.
He was even dreaming about her quite a bit.
He was triggering " wild-girl-responses" from me constantly and then he couldn't deal with the intensity of it.......LOLOL
I do believe this ' wild girl" inside of me holds a lot of Lilith-energy.
And also Lilith-power of course.
I believe every woman has this Lilith part, but with most women it's buried DEEP, DEEP down...
i sense quite a bit of Lilith-energy not so far from the surface in you also........
i quit writing novels in your journal now......*g*
i'm only still here, because i still need to get an article finished....
i was LAZY today.......
but did some sexy flower pics for you......
i like the second-the details-down to the lines in the apples--but what i really like about #2
is it feels less staged-staged (in a good way)-but..in a way that keeps me from being "settled"..the look on her face-in her eyes-has many layers and levels (at least that is how i respond to it..) also-the various shades of light/dark are rich in a way that give layers ..
what pondhopper wrote above-the first reminding her of a painting of joan of arc-..me too--but not a painting-more-from a film about joan of arc w antonin artaud in it..)
ps...just looking longer at # 2--
i know what i love:
it is ..there is a feeling that well-i feel-of mortality-as well as ..inevitablitity. -and..ofcourse history and all it's significant markers---..but-it is the mortality-the fragility-the cracking of time (or something)-as well as timelessness-that grabs me--
i guess-i just think this is a very strong image...
thought i'd say it's the breasts i love !---nah..but-i feel a sort of sensitivity (almost "painful to touch" feel "in" or "by" the breasts..and her sking-hair...so--ok--the breast part is part of the image i like---but..otherwise..great to see nudes when they are not used in glamorous ways-a model may be beautiful: but-man..so much more depth when there is more there than a naked area showing on a man or woman...guess what i am saying: if she wore a dress over her breasts in ther image--it wouldn't nearly have the sensitivity and strength that it has..
ok--enough out of me!
yes, i agree. it does feel less staged.
oh god. you mentioned antonin artaud. i am in love with him. i have his writings and his drawings.
also, i really found your comment about image#2
interesting. the whole thing about mortality and fragility.
but still...i know it was really about the breasts. you can't fool me!! (just kidding, woman)
these were really kewl comments.
i LOVE A.A. too :)))) not only was he a beautiful man--but-yeah-his writings--so beyond this world ;) and his drawings...just-fascinating stuff...
haha--yeah-caught red-handed--it was the breasts ;)
reminds me of fairytales :)
looks like Sissy Spacek.
I think your pics are the only ones I look at and think, ' yeah it wouldn't be so bad to be a model' - I did some years ago and did not like the experience.
The project sounds cool. I so want to be Pandora.
|Date:||September 11th, 2006 04:55 pm (UTC)|| |
:) -pandora, bearing the gift of context.
i looooove pandora. i would want to be her, too!!
i think my models have fun, to tell ya the truth. i have only once shot someone i didn't know first and by the end of the shoot she was my friend! i think they are comfortable with me. also, often when i work with people, it's more collaborative than just me telling them what to do. it makes my images kewler by giving me a wider range of ideas to work with (mine and hers). it also gives her ownership of the process. anywhooooo...if you were here, YOU WOULD BE MY PANDORA, WOMAN!
Re: :) -pandora, bearing the gift of context.
It's such a bitch that I didn;t find you before I left Vancouver last April... or even when I was back for three months last summer. Vancouver is such an achievable distance away ;o(
Yeah, being a fine art model would fun. Fashion is AWFUL. JUST AWFUL...

Re: :) -pandora, bearing the gift of context.
hey girl. it would have given me an excuse to visit vancouver, too. i've never been there.
on the diva cup...yuck.
all that blood being saved in a cup up there. no. i was a rag girl, all the way. (you'll note the past tense. -i went through menopause when i was THIRTY-SEVEN...isn't that amazing?)
Re: :) -pandora, bearing the gift of context.
you don't save it. It's only for a few hours...! ! !
Oh, god, everyone in the lab just asked what I was laughing at.... :D
Vancouver is pretty... NMelbourne is OK, I guess. A shamefull lack of mountains though.... :(
|Date:||September 11th, 2006 02:29 pm (UTC)|| |
You know people who would dislike a hand colored photo by virtue of it being hand colored? How effing silly is that?
I am looking forward to the finished images! These are looking good, finished or not.
|Date:||September 11th, 2006 04:56 pm (UTC)|| |
hmm.. i assumed that my friend, mia, wouldn't like it. but don't know for sure.
|Date:||September 11th, 2006 04:57 pm (UTC)|| |
i guess you figured out that was me.
Haha, well yes I do have net at home... but livejournal tend to be the last of the priorities! I like these two, the second one better ;) The first one seems to capture the mood of redemption better I think but the second is more sassy and to me depicts the actual today portrayal of eve. To me the look almost as before and after shots. I do hope there are more that turned out!
And its true, I would have rather been lillith. I found this in wikipedia:
"Lilith is described as refusing to assume a subservient role to Adam during sexual intercourse and so deserting him ("She said, 'I will not lie below,' and he said, 'I will not lie beneath you, but only on top. For you are fit only to be in the bottom position, while I am to be the superior one.'"). Lilith promptly uttered the name of God, took to the air, and left the Garden, settling on the Red Sea coast.
Two important observations should be made here: Lilith left the Garden of her own accord, before the Fall of Man, and is without Original Sin. She knows the name of God, making her an extremely powerful, and perhaps unique, cosmological being.
Lilith then went on to mate with Samael and various other demons she found beside the Red Sea, creating countless lilin."
Pretty wicked! :D
well, you should check your lj for the next few days because i'll be posting more of these beautiful images. i love how you photograph, and you were fun to work with...if you feel like being lilith, maybe we can do that in the future.
i love the story of lilith. it's very powerful!
